Cyberpunk 2077 has witnessed considerable success with its latest story expansion, Phantom Liberty, which has garnered stellar reviews and impressive sales since its release last September. CD Projekt Red has announced that the expansion has reached a new sales peak in 2023, with a total of 5 million gamers having purchased it.

The stellar performance of Phantom Liberty is noteworthy, especially when considering that it is an expansion and not a standalone title. Detailed figures show that the expansion sold 4.3 million copies by late November, signaling an increase of approximately 700,000 within just over a month. It had a strong start from the get-go, with 3 million copies being sold in merely the first week of its release.

For a broader perspective, it’s worth mentioning that the base game of Cyberpunk 2077 itself has attracted over 25 million players as of October 2023. Therefore, around 20% of those who own the main game have decided to delve into the new narrative that unfolds in the Dogtown setting by purchasing Phantom Liberty.

It's interesting to note that despite Cyberpunk 2077's availability on various platforms, including PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, the creators made a strategic decision with Phantom Liberty. The expansion was not rolled out for the previous generation of consoles, a move aimed at not holding back the technological potential of the new content. This bold decision has clearly not hindered the expansion's market performance, suggesting that gamers are more than willing to embrace advanced gaming experiences.
