The Persona franchise has achieved remarkable success, selling over 23.5 million units worldwide. This JRPG series has captured the hearts of gamers and secured a legendary status in the gaming world through its innovative gameplay and captivating narratives. Its rise to fame was significantly bolstered by the releases of Persona 3 and Persona 4, but it was Persona 5 in 2026 that truly expanded its fanbase. Subsequent releases like Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5 Strikers, the recent Persona 3 Reload, and Persona 5 Tactica have further enriched the series.

These expansions have significantly boosted the franchise's popularity, as highlighted in Sega's recent quarterly report, which confirms sales surpassing 23.5 million copies globally. This milestone underscores the prominence of Japanese role-playing games and hints at Sega's potential plans to allocate more resources towards the eagerly awaited Persona 6, currently in development by Atlus.

The report also notes growth in the Like a Dragon franchise from RGG Studio, partly driven by Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and its new Amazon Prime Video series. However, its full impact on sales is yet to be assessed. Additionally, the Sonic franchise has experienced a steady rise in popularity, though the impact of the upcoming major release Sonic X Shadow Generations and the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie is not yet reflected in the figures, promising intriguing developments in the next update.

Recent efforts by the Persona team have shifted towards Metaphor: ReFantazio, launched last month. It's unclear if they are simultaneously developing Persona 6. With three major launches this year, anticipation is high, and new revelations are likely forthcoming, possibly at The Game Awards.
