Phasmophobia Sneaks Onto Consoles: Popular Horror Game Heads to PS5 and Xbox

Phasmophobia, the critically acclaimed psychological horror game, is finally making its way to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and even PS VR2. Previously exclusive to PC players during its Early Access phase, this eagerly anticipated release will enable console gamers to experience one of the best ghost-hunting games in recent memory. With a new trailer revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase Extended, players can expect Phasmophobia to land on consoles in August 2023.
Developed by Kinetic Games, Phasmophobia has achieved massive popularity since its Early Access release in 2020. This co-op horror game challenges teams of up to four players to hunt ghosts using specialized equipment to detect paranormal activity. With 96% positive reviews on Steam and a reputation for terrifyingly immersive gameplay, console gamers have eagerly awaited their turn to join the ghost-hunting action. The game currently boasts ten locations and twenty unique ghosts, ensuring a thrilling experience with each investigation.
The console release of Phasmophobia will support optional crossplay, allowing players to choose whether they want to team up with friends on other platforms. Interestingly, the game will skip the PS4 and Xbox One, with its focus firmly placed on next-gen consoles and VR experiences. Despite the console release, Phasmophobia will remain in Early Access, with continued development planned through its eventual Version 1.0 release on both PC and consoles.
Phasmophobia's upcoming compatibility with PlayStation VR2 seems like a match made in heaven. The game's emphasis on immersion has made it a popular choice for PC gamers using VR headsets, and non-PC gamers will soon get the chance to experience the terrifying gameplay in virtual reality. There's more in the pipeline for Phasmophobia besides the console release. The developers have outlined their roadmap, which includes the Progression 2.0 update. With Version 0.8 currently available, players can look forward to the Progression 1.0 update (Version 0.9) in July, followed by Progression 2.0 (Version 0.9.1) in the third quarter of 2023. These updates promise overhauled equipment upgrades, a reworked rewards system, and new ghost-hunting tools, such as a sound recorder. The full Phasmophobia experience, Version 1.0, is scheduled for a 2024 release, complete with more ghosts, events, locations, and equipment.
