The answer, in one line
There is no money cheat in GTA V — not in Story Mode, not in GTA Online, not on any platform, and there never has been. No cheat of any kind works in GTA Online.
The one people actually come for: invincibility is PAINKILLER on PC, 1-999-724-654-5537 by phone, and it lasts five minutes. Full register → · Why the money cheat does not exist →
How to enter a cheat
Three input methods, and they are not interchangeable across platforms. Every cheat below is Story Mode only — see section 05 before you go looking for them anywhere else.
| Method | Where it works | How |
|---|---|---|
| Console command | PC only | Press the key immediately left of 1 — ~ on US layouts, ¬ or ` on UK. Type the code, press Enter. A Cheat Activated message confirms it. |
| Phone number | PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox One / Series X|S | Open the in-game phone, go to the dial pad, enter the number, call it. Every number starts 1-999-. |
| Controller combination | All platforms, including PS3 and Xbox 360 | Enter the sequence quickly. This is the only method on PS3 and Xbox 360 — phone entry does not exist there. |
Two things worth knowing before you start
You cannot save cheat numbers to contacts. When a cheat expires or is toggled off, you type it again from scratch.
Re-entering usually turns a cheat off. Rockstar's own wording is careful: entering the same code twice “will usually, but not always, disable the cheat”. Weapons & Ammo is the useful exception — re-entering it refills ammo.
One genuine disagreement between sources: PC Gamer says to enter codes in capitals exactly as written, GTA BOOM says they are case-insensitive. Rockstar has never documented it. We print them in capitals, which works either way.

Typos that have been copied across half the internet
Every phone number is the PC code spelled on a telephone keypad, which makes errors checkable. Drunk Mode is 547-867, not 547-861. Fast Run is 228-2463, not 2288-463. Trashmaster is 872-7433 — seven digits, and several sites print six. If a site has these wrong, assume the rest of its list was copied rather than checked.
Recipes: what to actually type, for the six things people want
A register tells you what exists. This tells you what to enter for a specific outcome. PC codes shown; the phone numbers and controller combinations for each are in the tables above.
| What you want | Enter | Why this order |
|---|---|---|
| Get out of a five-star chase | PAINKILLER → LAWYERUP | Invincibility first buys you the five minutes; then drop the wanted level one step at a time. Re-entering LAWYERUP steps it down again |
| Test a car properly | MAKEITRAIN → SNOWDAY off | Cycle the weather to a clear sky first — wet road surface changes handling. Make sure Slidey Cars is not toggled on from an earlier session |
| Film or photograph a scene | JRTALENT | Director Mode turns the cheats into menu toggles that hold for the session instead of expiring, and adds time of day, weather and density. See section 07 |
| Explosive sandbox | HOTHANDS · HIGHEX · INCENDIARY | All three are toggles, so they stay on until re-entered. Add SKYFALL to reposition without driving |
| Practise aim in slow motion | DEADEYE ×4 | Slow Motion Aim stacks — four entries deepen it, the fifth switches it off |
| Reach the top of Mount Chiliad | BARNSTORM → SKYDIVE | Spawn the stunt plane, then make sure you have a parachute before you jump out of it |
Before you use any of these on a mission
Any cheat active during a mission caps that mission's rating at Bronze, and starting a mission switches off whatever you had running off-mission. Neither costs you 100% completion — gold medals are not on the checklist — but it does cost you the medal for that attempt. Because medal criteria accumulate across replays, a cheated run is simply a run that banks nothing.
Duration, stacking and what survives a reload
- Invincibility is the only hard-timed cheat: five minutes. It is also cancelled instantly if you switch to another protagonist.
- Slow Motion and Slow Motion Aim stack. Enter Slow Motion up to three times for a stronger effect; the fourth entry switches it off. Slow Motion Aim stacks up to four, with the fifth switching it off. Sources disagree slightly on the exact counts — GTA Wiki words both as “up to 4, the fourth disables”.
- Everything else is a toggle or a one-shot. Toggles — explosive ammo, flaming bullets, explosive melee, super jump, moon gravity, slidey cars, drunk mode, fast run, fast swim — stay on until re-entered. One-shots fire once and are done.
- Nothing survives a save reload. Cheat state is never written to the save file. Reloading or restarting resets everything.
- Starting a mission kills active cheats. Anything you had running off-mission is switched off when the mission begins.
Two effects worth knowing that the cheat names do not advertise: Max Health & Armor also repairs the vehicle you are sitting in and puts out fire, and Moon Gravity applies to your vehicle, not just to you.
Back to the GTA V guides hubWhat cheats actually cost you
The big one, and it is wrong almost everywhere
Cheats do not permanently disable achievements in GTA V. Rockstar's own support article says saving is allowed with cheats enabled and achievements are “temporarily disabled”. Reload a save or restart the game and they re-enable. The belief comes from GTA IV, where the penalty genuinely was permanent — that carried over into a decade of copied guides.
| Thing | Affected? | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Achievements / trophies | Session only | Disabled for the current play session, restored on reload or restart |
| Saving | No | Rockstar explicitly permits saving with cheats active. No flag is written to the save |
| 100% completion | No | Gold medals are not on the 100% checklist at all, so the cap below cannot cost you completion |
| Mission medal | Yes | Using any cheat during a mission caps that mission's rating at Bronze |
| Autosaves | No | No source supports the claim that cheats block or corrupt autosaves |
Where the confusion comes from is worth spelling out. GTA Wiki phrases the medal cap as “activating a cheat during a mission will disable 100% completion for that mission”, while separately stating that cheats do not prevent 100% game completion. Both sentences are true and they are about different things. Read quickly, the first one sounds like the second.
Back to the GTA V guides hubWhere cheats do not work
GTA Online: none of them, ever. This is confirmed by every authoritative source and it has been true since launch. There are no GTA Online cheat codes. What exists instead are mod menus, and using one is a documented route to a permanent ban.
Story Mode blocks cheats situationally. Rockstar's wording: “sometimes during specific areas of gameplay, specific cheats are temporarily not available”. You get a message — Cheat Denied: Cannot activate that cheat right now, or Cheat denied: Not available on a mission or pastime. Invincibility, drunk mode and the explosive effects are among those commonly blocked mid-mission.
What we are deliberately not publishing
No source we could find enumerates a specific list of missions that refuse cheat input. Several sites publish one anyway. We are not reprinting a list nobody can substantiate — the honest statement is that the block exists, it is situational, and the game tells you when you have hit it.
The money cheat that has never existed
There is no money cheat in GTA V. Not in Story Mode, not in GTA Online, not on any platform, not at any point in twelve years. PC Gamer, GTABase and GTA BOOM all state it flatly. Every site, video, app and “generator” offering one is fabricating it, and most of them want something from you in exchange.
What does exist is a legitimate mechanism that produces more money than any cheat would: Lester's five assassination missions combined with the in-game stock market. Each killing moves specific share prices in a documented, repeatable way. Buy before, sell after.
The one piece of timing that matters
Only the first assassination is story-mandatory. Save the other four until after The Big Score, when each protagonist is holding roughly $40,000,000. The returns are percentages, so the payoff scales with the capital you hold — running them early with pocket change permanently wastes the single largest multiplier in the game, the roughly 320% Redwood play.
Documented ceiling: about $2 billion per protagonist, which is where the game's signed 32-bit money counter caps out at $2,147,483,647. The full sequence is in our Map & Economy guide.
Director Mode
A free-roam sandbox built alongside the Rockstar Editor for making videos in the GTA V engine. It arrived on PC with the Editor and came to consoles in September 2015.
Four ways in: the Rockstar Editor menu, the Interaction Menu, a phone contact called Acting Up (originally Los Santos Talent), or the cheat — JRTALENT on PC, 1-999-57-825368 on any platform.
Why it matters if you came here for cheats
Inside Director Mode the cheats become menu toggles instead of typed codes — invincibility, explosive and flaming bullets, explosive melee, super jump, low gravity and slidey cars are all switchable. That makes them effectively permanent for the session rather than something you re-enter every five minutes. You also get time of day, weather, wanted level, pedestrian and vehicle density, restricted-area access and teleports to twenty-plus preset locations.
The trade-offs: no clothing stores, barbers or Los Santos Customs; no random events, hunting or minigames; the phone works as a camera only; and dying or being arrested ends the session unless invincibility is on.
Back to the GTA V guides hubCheats and GTA 6
Nothing is known about cheats in GTA 6. Rockstar has published no written systems documentation — not for cheats, not for anything else. The 27-minute gameplay presentation in August 2026 came with no feature breakdown, and the only Rockstar employee on record about the game, co-studio head Rob Nelson, has never been asked about cheats. Anyone publishing a GTA 6 cheat list right now is inventing it.
What is worth saying, because it is predictable rather than speculative: every Grand Theft Auto launch brings a wave of fake cheat sites with it, and they follow the same pattern each time — a “money generator”, a survey wall or a download, and a comment section of manufactured success stories. GTA V has been the reference case for a decade. Knowing exactly how the real system works here is the fastest way to recognise the GTA 6 version of the same scam in November.
Confirmed facts we do have: GTA 6 launches 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version announced. We will update this section when Rockstar says something on the record, and not before.
